Week 19 – The Dandelion Festival

The Dandelion Festival is upon us and I couldn’t be more excited!  Last year was the first time I experienced the local festival, which celebrates the sights, sounds, and flavours of Kemptville and the surrounding areas.  Joe, Matteo, and I arrived at Riverside Park {this year the festival is taking place on Prescott and Clothier streets} and did a loop to get the lay of the land.  Then we started at the bouncy castle and made our way to the music tent, stopping at the Big Sky Ranch petting zoo and the food vendors along the way.  If it had been just me and Joe at the festival, we would have had a good time but seeing the joy in Matteo’s eyes when he met Poomba the pig, tasted The Branch‘s brisket, and danced along to the big baNG {North Grenville District High School’s African drum band}…I’ll never forget that.  The whole day flowed so fluidly, making it an easy and enjoyable time for all three of us.

Can this year top last year?  I think so.

This year the Dandelion Festival is taking place along Prescott and Clothier streets, with the shops, cafés, restaurants, and pubs participating.  Anticipation has been growing steadily and all this week, dandelion decorations have been popping up all along the downtown core.  There will be three stages, each with their own lineup of entertainment.  Then there’s the Dandelion After Dark – where $15 gets you an all-access pass to Comfort, The Branch, and Salamanders where musicians will be rocking out from 9:00 pm – 11:00 pm.

We’ll be starting Saturday morning with a little Rhythm Play, a fun music class for kids aged 1 – 5, at the Rock My House stage, which will be punctuated by the 1st Grenville Militia volley demo.  After that, we’ll follow the day and see where it takes us.  On Sunday, we’ll be at the Grenville Mutual stage to see Gunner & Smith and I’m also looking forward to Shawn Yakimovich‘s “Front Yard Pharmacy” talk.

This free festival has a great lineup and special events that will appeal to kids and adults alike.  And do you know what else?  It’s free.  You just can’t beat that!
