Week 16: Louise and Company

Helium balloons for every occasion!

The first time I went to Louise and Company, I left with a baby teething ring, an apron, and a funnel.  Last time I was there I bumped into my Mom who was buying some cheery green and yellow paper napkins for spring. Louise and Company is the kind of store you need to read like a book, otherwise you might miss something.  I like to start at the front and work my way through the store, aisle by aisle.

Louise and Company is a celebration store.

The proud plush giraffe surveys his domain.

Name an occasion and Louise can help you celebrate.  She sells balloons for all occasions, many of which are customizable, and that’s just the start!  There are all the decorations and novelty gifts you need to throw a great party.  As well as special occasions (they specialize in milestone birthdays), Louise and Company has supplies for celebrating open-ended life experiences like parenthood, childhood, and the pleasures of cooking and baking.  This store covers a lot of ground!

Louise Arsenault started her career as a public health nurse and stayed home with her five children when they were little.  She taught prenatal classes and has been a leader with the Winchester La Leche League (LLL) since 1974.  There’s no LLL in Kemptville (yet) but do you want to know something cool?  Louise coaches nursing mothers in a private room at the back of the shop!  This is what I love about independent stores: the multi-faceted services you get from the fascinating people who incorporate their passions and develop a totally unique experience.

Louise and Company has a great selection of infant and baby gear.

Louise prides herself on providing excellent and knowledgeable customer service.  “I only sell products that I believe and that I would use myself,” she says.  She orders items that her customers request (such as the popular Sophie the Giraffe) and has even shipped a hard-to-find Medela breast pump parts to a customer in northern Canada.  Future parents and grandparents can take advantage of the Louise and Company Baby and Toy Registries.

Next time you’ve got a celebration to plan, whether it’s a bachelorette party or a wedding shower, a birth or a retirement party, you’ll find what you need at Louise and Company.
